Fashion is a staple in our culture. For centuries, clothing choice has been an important step before going anywhere. Fashion trends have shifted back and forth forever. With that being said, so many of our current trends have actually been around for a long time. I have always been interested in the start of these trends. While many may think that these trends are original, a lot of them lead back to the ’60s, â70s, and even the â30s. This shows us that fashion always repeats itself in a cycle.
Wedge Sneakers
Wedges started to become popular in the 1930s with the rise of wedge heels. Wedge heels were always pretty popular, though at the start of the 2010s, wedge sneakers started to become trendy. This new fashion statement started with Isabel Marant’s wedge sneakers. While they stayed popular, they have recently been blowing up on social media. Not just the Isabel Marant’s, but also many adidas collab wedge sneakers. Unfortunately, many brands don’t currently make these shoes anymore, except for the popular Isabel Marant’s. Some people resell on places like Depop and Etsy, and many people have gotten lucky at thrift stores!
Skinny Jeans
In the early 2000s, skinny jeans were the go-to bottoms. While they were popular in the â60s, from 2005-2017, skinny jeans were considered the trend. People stopped wearing them as much around 2020. Around this time, people started to wear baggier pants that were considered more âcomfortable.â In recent months, many people have claimed skinny jeans are âback.â There have been many articles published about the rising popularity of skinny jeans. While I love it when fashion trends come back, there have been so many people disagreeing. It just seems that the majority really doesn’t like skinny jeans.

Low Rise Pants
Low-rise pants were admired in the early 2000s, though also in the 90s. Brands like Diesel, True Religion, and Guess were brands that were known to specialize in the beloved low rise. Though it wasn’t just the brands that started the trend. Celebrities like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Lindsay Lohan were all wearing low-rise pants, which caused the trend to spread. Around 2015-2020, high-rise pants started gaining popularity instead. People claimed that the high-rise jeans would âcomplement people’s figureâ more, though recently, people have been saying the same thing about low-rise pants.

Metallic Studs
Metallic studs are a known Y2K fashion trend. On jeans, bags, belts, pretty much anything, they would be there. While this style was popular with celebrities like The Spice Girls, Destinyâs Child, and many others, it originally started around the â70s. The punk rock scene has been wearing metallic studs for decades before it was considered trendy. Now, metallic studs have come back better than ever. After being missing from mainstream fashion, people are now searching for the look. Phone cases, shoes, and headbands are all things that people have been adding metallic studs to.
Whether you agree or disagree with some of the clothing items on this list, we all know that no matter what is trending, it’s important to know that you should always dress how you want to. Yes, there are so many trends going around, but you never have to follow these trends just because. Dressing how you want is the most stylish choice.
