1.    Doing normal everyday things by yourself

Most people may not consider going to the grocery store, getting gas, or even going to the car wash as difficult things. However, it is normal to want to ask a friend to come with you so you do not have to do it alone, but sometimes it can be very therapeutic to go out and do things by yourself. It is nice to be around others, but sometimes it is better to have some time to yourself. This can clear your mind and help you get to know yourself better than you thought you did.

2.    Cutting off friends, family members, or significant others

2020 has presented various obstacles for many people. One of the most important things, and maybe unexpected, that has happened is the ability to see who people really are. You should never feel bad for distancing yourself from people that cause you more stress than happiness. And yes, this means family too! As you begin to grow and mature into your own person it is normal to realize that some of the things that you were taught by your family do not align with your beliefs. If this becomes an issue, you have to take care of yourself and learn to let go of people who weigh you down.

3.    Learning to say no

If you find yourself being someone who always has to say yes when someone asks you to do something, this is for you. Most importantly, it is okay to say no! You are in charge of your schedule and responsibilities. If you feel that something is too much, or if you just don’t want to do it all then you are allowed to say no! You have to take care of yourself and preserve your peace. Many people find themselves putting aside their responsibilities to take care of things for everyone else and that is not normal. Take time for yourself to do the things that you need to do.

Most of you are probably used to hearing self-care with the idea that you have to do face masks, take baths, and so on. However, there are many other things you could be doing to take care of yourself. Please remember to take time for yourself, surround yourself with people you want to be around, and don’t take on more than you need to. You got this!
