Adopting planners into your daily lifestyle has become all the rage in 2018. All of our favorite influencers on Instagram seem to have the cutest planners with the most inspirational quotes and the most colorful stickers. As someone who naturally likes to be organized, I’ve always that found carrying my planner around to be useful especially with tracking my assignments, but I never realized how much fun it could be to use my planner in a more productive way. It actually makes writing out my to-do lists exciting rather than overwhelming. If you haven’t already adopted a planner as part of your daily routine, here’s why you need one:
It allows you to take things one step at a time – Being a college student is stressful enough, having a planner allows me to organize my to-do list for the week without overwhelming myself and my schedule with other obligations. By writing down your plans for the week, you’ll be less annoyed about heading into class on a Monday morning and more prepared to take on the week, knowing that you have things planned out and ready to go.
Scheduling ‘Me-Time’ – Everyone needs a day or two to practice some self-care. Taking care of yourself can get lost in the hustle and bustle of the week, but it is so essential to set time aside to practice self-care. While you’re writing out your plans make sure to set some time aside to check in with yourself, whether that means doing a face mask, doing yoga or cozying up in your PJ’s and watching a movie!
Financial Responsibility – As a college student, you’re most likely taking on many financial responsibilities of your own for the first time, like paying your own phone bill or paying your credit card. Writing down your due dates on your planner is a great way to steer clear of any late or missed payments!
Mastering Time Management – By the end of your undergraduate career, it is essential for you to master time management. Implementing a planner into your daily routine is a guaranteed way to ensure that you’re turning in your assignments on-time and meeting any other deadlines that you have planned for the semester.
I understand that carrying around a planner might not be everyone’s thing, but it’s definitely worth a shot especially if you’re the organized and creative type. I’ve noticed that implementing a planner as part of my daily routine not only eases any anxiety about missing assignments, meetings or other obligations, but it’s also a lot of fun to decorate my planner and organize my life as a typical college student who’s normally worried about a million things at once. In a weird way, it’s also become a part of my self-care regimen, so that I’m not stressed about upcoming deadlines.
