Many of us lack in being sustainable; “small” things like throwing away instead of recycling a shampoo bottle actually has a larger impact than one would think. Garnier has recently started an initiative promoting learning how to recycle your beauty and personal care products. In using Garnier’s products, I’ve been reminded of the importance of sustainability.

Some don’t see sustainability as a genuine concern; they think that because there isn’t an immediate personal impact in being unsustainable, that it isn’t an issue. However, that’s not completely the case. Sustainability is important for one simple reason: we cannot maintain our quality of life as human beings, the diverse life forms on Earth, or Earth’s ecosystems unless we actually take care of it. It’s a two-way relationship; the Earth doesn’t just sustain us, but we also have a responsibility to sustain it. If we decide not to be sustainable, we start to lose the quality of life, we lose resources, species of animals will die out, including us, and lastly, our planet will die.

So next time you decide to leave the light on or throw away your shampoo bottle, just remember the damage you’re causing. Take a step back, turn off that light, and recycle that bottle. Just a few more seconds on your end and you can have a positive impact rather than a negative one. Do your part.

I just want to give a shout-out to Garnier for not only creating amazing products but for also staying sustainable. Check out their initiative here, they’re doing great things!
