“The bond with a true dog is as lasting as the ties of this earth will ever be.” – Konrad Lorenz

Growing up with dogs has always been a sanctuary for me. If I was sad or upset, I could cuddle up with my dog and immediately would feel relaxed. If I needed a smile or a friend my dog was always there. I plan on owning dogs for the rest of my life and because I’ve had them my entire life you begin to learn from them and see their view on the world.

1. You don’t need material things

So many people are obsessed with the next best thing or the newest smartphone. Normally, your dog is happy with a tennis ball, food, and water. Not to mention your dog especially enjoys the outdoors. What happened to that for us?

2. Love Unconditionally

Whether or not your hair is brushed, your makeup is done, or you’ve changed your clothes today, your dog will love you through it all. A dog defines their owner for their beauty within. They still love you no matter how your day was or the mistakes you’ve made.

3. Life can be Short and Sweet

Dogs have short lives and they may not live forever, but the time they share with you is more beautiful than words can describe. They leave you with a love that you never forget.

4. Loyalty

All over Facebook, there are videos of dogs who finally found their lost owners and the excitement in their eyes shows it all. They never gave up hope. A dog is truly our best friend through thick and thin. Loyalty is having your dog at the door with their tail going 100mph at the exact time you get home every day.

5. Sleep is Good for the Soul

Dogs sometimes sleep most of the day, especially as they age. Maybe that’s what makes them so happy? Or maybe that’s just me trying to convince myself that a daily nap is necessary.

6. Color, shape, and size doesn’t matter

When arriving at the dog park, most of the dogs all come together, whether it’s a five pound Chihuahua, or a one-hundred-and-fifty-pound mastiff it doesn’t matter (as long as no one plays too rough). Dogs range from black to white, to mixed. At the end of the day, they are all dogs regardless of their size or their appearance.

7. Enjoy Life

Instead of focusing on the latest post, try putting yourself in the mind of a dog. A dog doesn’t worry about yesterday, about tomorrow, or even the next hour. They live in the moment and the present. They’re happy as long as they are by your side.

At the end of the day, your dog will always be your favorite hello and your hardest goodbye. I am forever thankful that the world has four-legged best friends.
