The Single Girl’s Guide to Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Waterloo chapter.

February 14th is fast approaching, so get ready for all your couple-y friends to become even more unbearable than usual as they bask in the perfect bubble that is being in a relationship. But fret not, you can be just as insufferably happy as them and make Valentine’s Day 2018 one for the single girls!

1. Celebrate YOU!

Valentine’s Day is all about love – and that includes loving yourself (because you’re awesome)! Take some time for yourself: Do your nails, try out that new bath bomb you’ve been saving, crack open your favourite bottle of wine and a good book (or rom-com), and make it a whole event!

2. Have Girls Night Out

This is the ultimate way to celebrate Galentine’s Day instead of Valentine’s Day! Gather your girls and hit the town. Waterloo has tons of options when it comes to girls nights out, and when you’re with your friends you’re already guaranteed a great time. Remember, Girls Just Want to Have FUN!

3. Treat yo’ self

They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend – and the best part is you are a strong independent woman who doesn’t need anyone else to buy you nice things. So splurge on yourself! Maybe not diamonds exactly (I mean, I can barely afford my groceries on this student budget) but treat yourself to the stuff in your amazon cart that is just waiting to be checked out.

4. Host a Super Cute Valentine’s Day Party

If you’re the “mom” in your friend group like I am, make Valentine’s Day a celebration of love and friendship by hosting a cute and cliche party for all your friends (boyfriends optional, of course). Get some cute pink and red decorations, invoke a Valentine’s dress code, have a photo booth and Valentines themed game night. Check out my pinterest board here for even more ideas!

5. Spread the love

Celebrate love by spreading the love! Take time to Volunteer this Valentine’s Day and give back. The amount of love and kindness you’ll feel from doing good will make you feel so good and glad that you spent Valentine’s Day in the best way.

6. Take control and find some love

If you’re really itching for a night out with someone, take some control and make it happen! Get on your Tinder, Bumble, or whatever dating app you like, and meet someone new for 2018.

7. Netflix and Snacks

And if Valentine’s Day just isn’t your style, ignore it! Who says it has to be anything other than a regular day? Hop into your favourite sweats or PJs and catch up on some good ol’ Grey’s Anatomy. Because, let’s face it, chances are Meredith Grey is going through something worse than you being single on Valentine’s Day.

Whatever your plans may be, have a great time and enjoy a day of love! Happy Valentine’s Day hcxo.
