In Residence? Here’s How You Can Get into the Halloween Spirit

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Waterloo chapter.

Growing up, I always loved decorating the house for Halloween, and I found that the planning and anticipation is often better than the actual day. Between pumpkin carving and setting up the yard, there is always so much to look forward to. Now that I am living in residence I’m worried that I’ll miss my favourite parts of this holiday.

Feeling the same? I’ve come up with a few ways to bring the Halloween spirit right into your dorm room!

Start by Decorating the Outside of Your Door

The first thing you see when you enter your room is your door, so by having just a few decorations here you will be constantly reminded of Halloween. You can go all out and cover everything, or just print some Halloween pictures from the web. This is a great way to get your floormates in the spirit as well!

Add Decorations to Your Mirror

You can buy mirror decals from the dollar store, or if you don’t want to go out you can make your own and tape them on. A mirror is a good place for decorations because you will see them whenever you’re getting ready, what a great way to start your day!

Buy Gourds from the Grocery Store

Gourds are an easy and cute way to spice up your room, and you can put some on your desk to keep you company while studying. They come in many shapes and sizes, so you can get a variety and have them all over your room.

Tip: if you don’t have time to go out and buy a gourd, use a clementine and draw a jack-o-lantern face on it with a sharpie!

What else can you do?

  • Make your letterboard Halloween themed

  • Change the background of your computer to a spooky photo

  • Add fake webs to your window

These ideas will make your room look great and get you in the Halloween spirit!
