January me and December me are in two completely different positions. January was full of me forcing myself to work harder, not giving myself time to heal, tolerating things that shouldn’t have been accepted, and giving my energy to people and things that didn’t deserve it. In December, I am now happier, more forgiving of myself, protecting my peace, and loving every moment.

It’s important to reflect on your life, reflecting can happen in journals, with friends and family, or mentally. You can ask yourself a few questions to get the reflection started, here are some ideas.

How did you feel this year?

  • Reflect on pictures to jog your memory, think of the events that happened each month, and how they made you feel.
    • If you felt upset, what/who made you feel that way?
    • If you felt happy, what/when did you feel that way?
  • Answer those questions and engage in the activities that make you happy and don’t engage with the people or things that make you unhappy.

What were the key things that happened this year?

  • Remember the important events, document them, find images, and put them in places where you can see them. Allow yourself to feel proud of the events you went through.

Did you discover anything new about yourself?

  • Is there a new activity you enjoy?
  • Is there a new genre you like?
  • Is there a show that you really liked?
  • What do you want to do that you enjoyed in 2023?
    • Using this reflection question you can find new movies, songs, and shows you like. Create new pastimes and learn more about what you like.

How did you deal with problems in your life?

  • Did you run from them?
  • Did you endure the struggles and overcome them?
    • Reflect on these problems, think of how they could have been handled, think of how you wish to handle them in the future.

Did you express gratitude throughout the year? If so, what are you most grateful for?

  • We live lives that are full of resources that not many others have. We should express how thankful we feel about that.
  • Reflect on whether throughout this year you have shown gratitude and appreciation for the home you live in, the clothes you wear, the family you have, and more.

What habits did you find helpful throughout your day?

  • Did reading every night help you sleep better?
  • Did journaling help you express your feelings?
  • Did the gym give you good mental health?
    • Remember the habits that made you feel better and continue them. Also implement new habits that will allow you to feel good continuously throughout your day.

These are just a few questions you can ask yourself before 2024. Give yourself a good start in 2024, you deserve it!
