My Ultimate Binge-Worthy List of TV Shows and Movies: Reading Break Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Waterloo chapter.

Warriors, midterm season is upon us and all I want to do is get in my pj’s and eat an entire apple pie, or two. I know you can relate, don’t lie…

It’s the best time of the year. The weather is gloomy and no one will judge if you grab a cup of apple cider or a PSL and wrap yourself in a blanket for a prolonged amount of time – we’ve all been there. It’s also a jam packed stressful pocket of time where assignments are piling up, I haven’t been to the gym since I moved in and I’m struggling to remember what day of the week it is. Ah yes, the infamous and widely hated ‘midterm season’.

I think we are all deserving of a break, and these reading days couldn’t come sooner. Going into the break we all have expectations of pumpkin patches, apple orchards and lots of catching up with family and friends while slowly slipping into a tryptophan coma. BUT, the reality is that most of our time will be spent on the couch, eating leftovers, and clicking ‘Yes I’m still watching’ on Netflix. Doesn’t this sound perfect right now? I sure think so!

To help you out a little I’ve created:

My ultimate binge-worthy list of TV shows and movies: Reading Break Edition

1. Twilight (& New Moon & Eclipse & Breaking Dawn pt. 1 and 2)

(^Me running home for reading week)

Almost 10 hours of vampires, werewolves and Kristen Stewart’s interesting acting. What more could you want? Make sure to fill your plate with all the best fall foods; stuffing, turkey, mashed potatoes, and pie because we are in it for the long haul! This is truly the only type of marathon I will participate in, and honestly, quite frequently do.

2. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

A cute, quirky, romance that is perfect for a cozy night in! Be like Lara Jean and bake some cupcakes – or maybe brownies is better, right Peter K? You could also just weep about how no one sends you letter like this, but I guess either works! ALSO, make sure to check out the trilogy by Jenny Han that the movie is based off, if you want your heart to melt a little more than it already did watching LJ and Peter fall in love on screen!

3. The Holiday

It doesn’t matter what season, what holiday or where I am, The Holiday is always a must! I convinced my grandparents to watch this rom-com with me over the summer and they loved it – a feel-good, crowd pleaser!

(^me handing in my resume)

4. Amanda Knox

If documentaries are more you cup of tea, then this one is a must! It’s engaging, haunting and will leave you slightly confused. Amanda Knox’s whirlwind of a tale is so intriguing and is a great documentary if you want to challenge your FBI investigating abilities – did she or didn’t she do it? Who knows…

5. Atypical

One of my new obsessions! Atypical is so realistic and relatable in it’s display of the struggles of teenage life, and attempts to rightly represent one story of one boy on the autism spectrum, and how he navigates the daunting world of dating. I will definitely be finishing up the second season over the break!

(^me, the entire week leading up to reading break)

Well, I think I’ve set you up with quite a list, or at least a few to get started with! I hope you spend your reading break relaxing and rejuvenating because let’s face it, midterm season never ends, it’s more like midterms for 4 years straight then you graduate, right? Take this time to catch up on your favorites or check out one of mine!

Happy Netflix watching Warriors!
