How to Gently Immerse Yourself Into the Holiday Spirit

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Waterloo chapter.

We did it — we made it through another semester! Personally, the fall term went by so quickly. I still remember dreading the first official return to in-person classes at the end of August because I knew that as a last-year student, I would be super busy. But it went by so fast! Way too fast, if I’m being honest.

I can’t remember the last time I saw the sun, and finals season has amplified the gloomy weather’s effect on my well-being. Finishing up exams should be something to be happy about; yet, it feels like just another day.

If you relate to what I’m currently feeling, below are some fun ideas you can incorporate to ease yourself into the holiday festivities.

Your bedroom is your own personal space, and spicing up your regular setup to fit the holidays can make a huge difference! You can add a small decorative Christmas tree on your table or get a cute snow globe that you can shake at any time.

In your living room, you can add festive lights to the walls and some cozy throw blankets on the couch. What’s better than snuggling under a warm, soft blanket while it’s snowing outside (even though it has barely snowed so far…)?

Adding more colours to your wardrobe can make you feel more in theme with the holidays, especially if you like to dress up! Since Christmas is coming up, the main colours you could focus on are red, white, green, and black. These are all basic colours, but there are so many different shades of each colour. You’ll definitely enjoy experimenting with different colour combinations. A sage green turtleneck with white pants? These fit in with the Christmas colour scheme, and you’re dressed up as a matcha latte!

These are just a few small differences you can include in your daily life to familiarize yourself with the upcoming holidays, now that the semester’s over.

Remember to take care of yourself over the holidays, and catch up on all the rest you need before the next semester.

Happy holidays!

Hi there! I'm a psychology student at the University of Waterloo. I love studying, and on the side, I am also a big fan of writing. In my free time, I am either on pinterest or I'm in the kitchen, trying out different recipes.
