The Best Halloween Movies to Watch on Canadian Netflix

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Waterloo chapter.

Its ~ spooky szn ~ witches! The leaves are changing colour, it’s getting colder outside, and that means it’s time to cozy up inside with Pillsbury Halloween cookies and some awesome festive films!

Sadly, Canadian Netflix doesn’t have the “classics” like Halloweentown or Hocus Pocus – but I’ve done some digging to find the best they have to offer. Get ready to add to your list ASAP because there is something for everyone!

If you want a classic…ish movie, try Coraline

Yeah sure, buttons for eyes can be scary as a kid, but if we can’t have Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas, we’ll just have to make do. And honestly, it’s much less scary when you’re watching with your roomies anyway.

If you want a good friendship-over-everything vibe, try Stranger Things

Let’s be real, between the Upside Down and Demogorgons running around, there’s plenty of ~strange things~ perfect for a Halloween movie night right here! Also, there’s even a Halloween episode if you’re really festive like that.

If you want a fun family feature, try Monster House

Total transparency, ten years ago, I 100% believed my house would come alive just like this. But here I am today with newfound appreciation for the simpler times. Nothing can faze me now, spooky szn has got nothin’ on midterm szn…am I wrong?

If you loved Riverdale, try The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

This show comes out just in time for Halloween, so mark your calendar for October 26th! Sabrina the Teenage Witch is about to take on a whole new vibe just like Archie and the Gang in Riverdale…here’s hoping for an awesome crossover episode!

If you want horror, try The Ring

All there is to say is that I couldn’t make it through the trailer…yikes!

If you miss the 90s, try Casper (the friendly ghost!!)

Who could pass up this cutie! Nothing will bring you Halloween nostalgia like this one!!

If you want to relive the oldies in a new way, try Ghostbusters: Answer the Call

Nothing beats the original movie (imo), but this level of badass women is amazing. It’s the perfect blend of festive spirit and awesome girl power to help you find some midterm motivation! Also, you can’t beat this cast – 11/10 guaranteed mood booster!!

If you want funny but spooky times, try Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed

Reasons to watch this movie include – 1: Freddie Prinze Jr., 2: Velma’s leather outfit, 3: fun weird monsters! 4: SCOOBY SNAX! And, of course 5: Jinkies! They have awesome catch phrases!

But, if all else fails you can always watch the Halloween specials of your favourite Netflix shows because nothing beats Dwight Schrute with a pumpkin on his head.
