7 Eighties Movies Every Girl Needs to See

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Waterloo chapter.

Ever feel the need to go back in time, when everything was simpler?

Well, I don’t own a time machine but these amazing 80s movies can help you get in the mood to rock those neon sweaters, acid-wash jeans and fanny packs while fantasizing about your crush visiting your house to profess his love while carrying a boombox.

1) Pretty in Pink

If you’ve ever had a crush on a boy from a completely different clique, this movie is for you.

2) All the Right Moves

Varsity athletes, I’m looking at you here, all the pressure of getting good grades AND getting a scout to sign you deserves all the props.

3) 16 Candles

If you’ve ever had your parents accidentally forget an important occasion of yours, this is a must-watch to show that things turn out alright in the end.

4) Ferris Bueler’s Day Off

Sometimes we all need to take a day off school to re-charge our batteries or go off on an adventure and who knows, maybe even find ourselves along the way.

5) The Princess Bride

A HUGE cult classic, with memorable one-liners and a love story for the ages. This movie has adventure, action, comedy and romance, all while being ridiculously cheesy in the best way possible.

6) Beetlejuice

Maybe not as cheerful as the other movies, but Tim Burton never disappoints, and seeing the main character being a bit of an outsider makes us feel like it’s cool to be different.

And last but not least,

7) The Breakfast Club

Hands down my absolute favourite movie. It follows 5 teens in Saturday detention and shows you that everyone has issues no matter what walk of life we’re from, and shows us how we have a lot in common each other if we try to get to know one another.
