I’m currently wrapping up my first term at Waterloo, and needless to say, I’ve learned a lot about university life in general. Here are some tips for my fellow introverts (and anyone else tbh)!

1. Over-packing is better than under-packing

It’s hard to have to ask someone for something that you wish you brought with you, especially when everyone’s new. If you realize you don’t need something, you can always take it back home with you next time you visit!

2. You can totally live in a traditional dorm

Living in the same room as someone else can be nerve racking, but it’s a great way to put yourself out there. At least this way, you can’t hide yourself from being social!

3. You don’t need to remember everyone’s names

You meet so many new people, especially during frosh week so don’t sweat it if you can’t remember names. Most people are in the same boat and are totally understanding if you ask them the next time you see them!

4. You don’t have to make new friends

Tbh I’ve still been hanging out with my friends from high school, and it’s really no big deal. One upper year told me she didn’t make any new friends until her second term of second year.

5. There are places to get away on campus

I’ve learned that the library is a great place for individual studying. As nerdy as it sounds, it’s always packed. You can also always go into any open classrooms that aren’t in use if you need more space, there are a lot of resources for people like us!

I enjoy naps, cake and sarcasm.
