Why I Ditched the Nail Salon for Press-on Nails

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Washington chapter.

Press-on nails have been my go-to for a quick manicure for almost a year and i’m almost certain I’ll never go back to a nail salon again.

Here’s why:

1. I’m Saving Money!

College budgeting has taught me to be frugal. I realized I was spending around $35 a month on my nails going to get them done at the salon. With press on nails, i’m spending less than $10 for 2 full sets of nails.

2. They look just as expensive!

I’m all for looking boujee on a budget. If you’re not a fan of acrylic nails for your every day look and just want them for a night out, press-ons are the perfect alternative.

3. They’re not harming my real nails!

I have been getting my nails done since my sophomore year in high school. As you can imagine, that would cause anyones nails to become extremely thin and fragile. With press-on nails, I spare my nails the pain of getting drilled down by a buffer at the salon. When the acrylics pop off or I remove them, my nails aren’t harmed!

4. I can do them on my own time!

One of the hassles of going to the nail salon while in school was trying to find time to fit it in my busy schedule. With press-on nails I can pick them up while i’m running errands or getting groceries. Press on nail kits are available at your local Wallgreens, Bartel Drugs, Target, Walmart, etc. There are also many brands available on amazon.

The brand I use is called “kiss” for nails and nail glue. Press on nails might seem like a blast from the past, but they have certainly come a long way since your childhood. Their styles are versatile whether you like short, coffin shape, long or medium length. There is a color, design, and shape for everyone.
