Spring quarter is a breath of fresh air for everyone. After the dreary winter we had with all the rain and the snowpocalypse(s), it’s refreshing to see the sun again. For many, spring quarter is full of endings, whether it be the end of your first year at UW or graduation. But no matter where you are, you can ace your classes and make spring quarter 2019 your best quarter yet!

Get Organized!

If you don’t have one already, get a planner to write down all your assignment and meetings. I find this to be the best way to remember what to do rather than putting things in my phone calendar. Make a system for filing papers you might get from class and stick to it.

When In Doubt, Study Outside!

Don’t stay cooped up in your room or the library studying all day. If you really need to study feel free to find a bench or a tree to sit by and do your class readings there. Last spring quarter I sat under the same tree by Drumheller Fountain almost every day. Bring some earbuds, a snack, and get all your reading done at once!

Don’t Let Yourself Get Too Stressed

If you’re overwhelmed and stressed about this quarter, it’s okay to reexamine things. Don’t try to overload your coursework. Remember that having to drop a class doesn’t mean you’re failing—in the end it’s usually better for both your physical and mental health.

Find Your Balance

For everyone it’s different, but make sure to find your perfect balance between schoolwork and fun. While this means you shouldn’t be studying 24/7, this also doesn’t mean you should go out and party every night. You’re allowed to have fun, but make sure it doesn’t conflict with your school responsibilities.

Join a Club

Remember it’s never too late to join a club! Maybe you’ve always wanted to join hiking club, but you’re graduating at the end of the quarter; it’s okay! Most clubs are glad to still be accepting new members throughout the year, so go out and make new friends and enjoy yourself.

Treat Yo Self

Don’t be afraid to treat yourself. Be proud of the fact you’ve made it this far and celebrate it. Go to your favorite band’s concert, go see that movie you’ve been looking forward to, take that weekend hike. You deserve for working hard and being amazing!
