Valentines Day is creeping up and if the bright red and pink aisles at the store aren’t proof enough, then the countless photos and conversations happening around us daily should be sufficient! This holiday revolves around love, and for some reason, numerous people feel a sense of resentment towards it. Why is that? Is it because of a bitter memory of someone you used to identify the holiday with? Maybe you’re single and don’t see a reason to celebrate? I know that is the reason why many people dislike this day, but I have always adored Valentine’s day. I have never spent this day with any romantic partner; however, this is not an event I typically associate with couples. To me, this day is about everyone around me who I love and care for deeply and I think that’s something people tend to forget! Valentines Day is not only for romantic couples, but an opportunity to show your loved ones some extra love – specifically for me, my family is where I focus most of my attention on this day!

A way you can show your family some love on the 14th is by expressing your admiration through the typical Valentine’s card! Without the stereotypical “be mine” slogan you tend to see on most cards, but maybe a sweet “I love you” message or simply expressing your gratitude to a loved one. The amount of love and warmth I feel radiate all over my body and through my soul when I see my family’s reaction to any display of love is the feeling that made me fall in love with this holiday in the first place!

Another way I show my family love is by giving gifts! A huge plus for me because one of my love languages is gift giving! I love giving my family something that I know they will adore, and it feels good when you see the happiness on their faces! You don’t need to buy that person an expensive piece of jewelry, but maybe some yummy chocolates or a bouquet of their favorite flowers will brighten their day! Like the saying goes: it’s the thought that counts!

Finally, just spend some quality time with your loved ones. Don’t forget about the people that have shown their support for you through the good and bad times! Show them the appreciation you have towards them and leave behind all the annoying and harmful ideas that Valentine’s Day is only for couples. It’s the day to celebrate love and it’s something we all need a little extra of during these times!
