Shannon Lindsay Lee

Shannon is a freshman here at the UW. She’s from Redmond, WA and hopes to major in Informatics and minor in Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies.

What’s been your favorite class you’ve taken at UW so far?

GWSS 200! I’m super into feminism and the class was a really good look at social issues in an academic setting. It was pretty interesting to hear all the different opinions people had, especially because it was mostly women in the class. I loved going to every 2-hour lecture and I loved the readings because they offered tons of different perspectives. The professor was really respectful of all the students, and it showed that she really cared about us.

What’s your dream job?

Fashion Designer. Such a dream job, I know. Slash civil rights lawyer.

If you were a given a free vacation to anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

Hong Kong, because that’s where my mom is from and I’d like to get in touch with my heritage.

What’s your idea of a perfect Saturday?

Shopping! Also, a really amazing lunch. And of course, a sunny day. With friends.

What time period would you want to visit for a day?

The future – 2100 to be specific. I’m hoping that things would be better.

What’s your favorite tv show?

Orphan Black, it’s so good!

What’s one piece of advice you would give to incoming freshmen?

Don’t try to be anyone you’re not. Stay true to yourself, because it’s not worth it to change who you are.

San Francisco native studying at the Univerisity of Washington, Seattle. Kathryn's goal is to major in Psychology, but she hopes to take lots of history and english classes along the way. In her free time she loves reading, watching TV, and daydreaming about writing a book someday.
