Best Podcasts to Listen to in the New Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Washington chapter.

The first month of a new year always consists of people talking about “New Year, New Me”. Now that it’s a whole new decade, people are talking about this idea even more. While I may not believe in the “New Year, New Me” idea, I’m always interested in how I can grow, personally as well as professionally, in the new year. One of my biggest sources of inspiration are podcasts; here are 3 of the best podcasts to listen to in the new year.

1. The Evolving Vegan Podcast – Mena Massoud

This year, one of my goals is to start eating vegan; keeping that in mind, I decided to look for some podcasts that would be a source of inspiration to begin my veganism journey. I discovered Mena Massoud through the live action Aladdin (excellent movie, by the way), but I didn’t know that he had a podcast and a blog about going vegan! His podcast (and blog) discuss the benefits of going vegan, whether that may be environmental, or health related. I really enjoy listening to this podcast, and even though there are only 3 episodes out, I’ve learned a lot from those 3 episodes.

2. Kalyn’s Coffee Talk – Kalyn Nicholson

I’ve been watching Kalyn Nicholson’s YouTube channel for a while now, and when I found out that she was making a podcast, I couldn’t wait to listen. Kalyn’s podcast has really helped me learn some important lessons to grow as a person. Some of her podcast episodes include “How to Slow Down Life”, “What Would You Do if You Weren’t Afraid?”, and “9 Ways to Recharge”. Listening to Kalyn’s podcast always leaves me with a newfound sense of enthusiasm and I highly recommend her podcast if you’re looking for some motivation this new year!

3. Pantsuit Politics – Sarah Steward Holland and Beth Silvers

I was looking for some new podcasts to listen to, and a friend recommended Pantsuit Politics. I think this podcast is especially relevant with the 2020 elections coming up this year, and it’s also just fascinating in general. It’s always convenient to have another means to learn about the news, especially since I find that I don’t always have time to sit down and read the news. Some of the most recent episodes include “The Rules for a Senate Impeachment Trial”, “Australia on Fire”, and “How Do You Solve a Problem Like 2020?” Though I’ve just recently discovered this podcast, I can’t wait to listen to more episodes and learn more about politics!

In my opinion, these 3 podcasts are great podcasts, and I really recommend them for some motivation and inspiration this new year! Of course, there are plenty of other podcasts out there, but I personally love these 3. Happy listening!
