7 of the Most Inspiring Music Scenes from Movies

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Washington chapter.

Just like getting crush on someone…it feels indescribably exciting when a great music scene comes on when watching a movie. Even finding out my favorite actor or actress is a talented musician makes my day. There are countless unforgettable movies, but these 7 music scenes are most inspiring!

1. “Just the Way You Are – the Bellas Remix”

The flawless cover of Bruno Mars and Nelly from Pitch Perfect (2012)

As the acapella group finally comes together under Beca’s lead, the Barden Bellas create a best remix of 2 popular songs. Not only the lyrics, but also the way the musically talented girls perform surely makes you want to sing along. I cannot deny that I searched for female acapella groups in my university after watched the scene…

“When I see your face, there’s not a thing that I would change. Cause you are amazing.”

2. “Little House”

The most romantic scene with Amanda Seyfried’s pure voice from Dear John (2010)

The film itself is heart-melting in many ways, but this singing part is unforgettable. The soothing sound of acoustic guitar and Savannah’s outstandingly beautiful voice makes you emotional and want to fall in love: it’s definitely the moment when John literally starts seeing a future with her.

“I love this place. But it’s haunted without you…”

3. “Love Will Show You Everything”

When Jennifer Love Hewitt shines as both actress and singer from If Only (2004)

The romantic fantasy movie surely soars as Samantha sings this piece of music (which secretly plays an important role throughout the story). It gives you goosebumps when her voice hits the ultimate high note, backed up with chorus and orchestra. I personally like the way Ian tries to make Samantha feel confident about her singing and the way he watches her performance from the corner of the room.

“If you will let me, I’ll take what scares you and hold it deep inside.”

4. “Falling Slowly”

Oscar winning love song by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova from Once (2007)

Melody, creativity, and outstanding talent come together in this movie’s Dublin duet. With music this beautiful (and chemistry that’s off the charts) it’s no wonder the movie became so successful despite its low budget. The song was written, composed and performed by Hansard and Irglova and attracted the audience with the calming sound and poetic lyrics.

“Take this sinking boat and point it home. We’ve still got time.”

5. “That’s the Way”

Uplifting Gospel Music with the voice of young stars from Joyful Noise (2012)

The performance of this song is one of the best scenes in the musical-comedy drama film started by Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah, Keke Palmer, and Jeremy Jordan, the star from the Broadway musical Newsies! Even those winners of Grammys, Oscars and Emmys got a little intimidated by the outstanding performance of the group of young talented singers. This song made me a fan of gospel music.

“Let not your heart be troubled. Let all your suffering cease. Just learn to help one another, and live in perfect peace.”

6. “The Climb”

The theme song from Hannah Montana: the Movie (2009)

This was when Miley found her direction in the future both as an artist and the main character of the unbelievably popular TV show. Even though it was just one of the catchy songs for teens at the time, the lyrics actually told a deep story. The whole performance made it clear that Miley existed not only in the show but also in the real life with the same struggle: sending meaningful messages to many of the youth who were in their transitional time.

“Keep on movin’, keep climbin’, keep the faith.”

7. “Today”

Heart-touching music session with the touch of banjo and cello from If I Stay (2014)

The perfect combination of classical and modern instruments played by family and friends: this bonfire scene is the most inspiring part of the movie. Although Mia, the main character played by Chloë Grace Moretz, faces agonizing reality and has hard decisions to make about her life, the music session remains as the best memory. Watching the jamming scene makes you miss someone important and tell how much you love them. To me, the melody sounds to share the beauty of being alive.

“Today is the greatest day I’ve ever known. Can’t wait for tomorrow…”

P.S. “Dueling Guitars” from August Rush (2007)

This musical number is too incredible for words. Just watch it.
