5 DIY Spooktacular Halloween Treats

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Washington chapter.

With Halloween right around the corner, what better time to crack out your creative skills and host a spooky party with the cutest treats around? Here are five super simple Halloween munchies to wow all your friends and guests!

Pumpkin Pretzels

Ingredients:

  • Mini pretzels
  • Green m&ms
  • White chocolate chips
  • Coconut oil
  • Orange food coloring

Directions:

  1. Place 3/4 cup of white chocolate chips in a glass bowl and mix with 1/2 teaspoon of coconut oil. Microwave on high for 1 minute. Let the mixture cool in the microwave for an additional minute. Stir gently, then return to the microwave for 15 seconds as needed.
  2. Add orange food coloring to the melted chocolate and stir gently.
  3. Dip each pretzel into the bowl of melted orange chocolate, gently tapping the pretzel against the edge of the bowl to release excess chocolate.
  4. Lay each chocolate covered pretzel down onto a piece of wax paper. Place 1 green m&m into the top indent of each pretzel, so that it looks like a cute green stem!

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Ghosts

Ingredients:

  • Strawberries
  • White chocolate chips
  • Candy eyes

Directions:

  2. Dip strawberries one at a time into the bowl of melted chocolate, dragging out excess chocolate on the bottom (onto wax paper) to make a ghost tail.
  3. Set covered strawberries on wax paper and place two candy eyes on the front of each strawberry.
  4. Let the chocolate covered strawberries harden on the wax paper before eating!

Bat Bites

Ingredients:

  • Mini Reeses cups
  • Thin Oreo cookies
  • Frosting
  • Candy eyes

Directions:

  1. Remove and discard (by eating!) the frosting from the middle of an Oreo.
  2. Break each of the two remaining Oreo cookies in half to make “bat wings”.
  3. Fill up a plastic bag with frosting. Cut off the tip of the bag and pipe frosting onto the back corners of the broken Oreo pieces.
  4. Press one cookie piece onto the left of the Reese’s cup, and another cookie piece onto the right of the Reese’s cup.
  5. Pipe frosting onto the back of the edible eyes, and secure the eyes on top of the center of the Reese’s cup.

Spider Oreos

Ingredients:

  • Oreo cookies
  • Pretzel sticks
  • Green m&ms
  • Frosting

Directions:

  1. Stick three pretzel sticks into the left side of the Oreo cookie, and three pretzel sticks into the opposite side.
  2. Use frosting to attach two green m&ms onto the top of the Oreo for eyes. So easy!

Mini Caramel Apples

Ingredients:

  • Crisp green apples
  • Caramel bits
  • Any toppings you want!

Directions:

  1. Use a melon baller to scoop out mini apple balls from a crisp green apple.
  2. After scooping out multiple mini apples, place them on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper.
  3. Stick cake pop/sucker sticks into each mini apple.
  4. Place caramel bits and water into a medium microwaveable bowl. Microwave on high for 2 minutes. Stir until caramel bits are completely melted.
  5. Allow the caramel to cool so that it can thicken a bit, and then dip the mini apples into the caramel. After dipping, add some toppings like sprinkles or shredded coconut, then place the mini apples back onto the greased sheet of wax paper.

(BOO)m! Happy Halloween and happy eating!
