WUSTL’s New Athletic Center

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wash U chapter.

The new AC is finally here. I repeat: THE NEW AC IS FINALLY HERE. Not only does the Sumers Recreation Center mean more #fitness but it’s also one less thing under construction on campus! Some highlights: two new mirrored studios for workout classes and an insane new dark room for cycling! Oh yeah… There are still weights too. But with classes like TRX Butts & Gutts and Rise & Ride, the Testostrogym (not a thing for a reason) will definitely be diversified a little bit.

1. The Dark Room

SoulCycle, is that you??? Our midwest school just got even more east coast. With huge monitors, lighting options, and insanely legit spin bikes, we basically have a mini SoulCycle. But wait, there’s more: ALL classes are included if you have a membership to the Sumers Recreation Center (read FREE!!!). Pro tip: go twenty minutes early- these classes get packed and they all go by a drop-in basis. So if you want a spot, you’ve got to fight for it.

2. Two New Studios

Studio 1904

Went to a TRX Butts & Gutts class here yesterday with Kristen and couldn’t recommend more! I’m currently frozen from soreness but it’s all worth it to take a class in this beautiful studio. Look at those mirrors!! Down side though: the other side is a windowed wall that faces literally THE WORLD. So if you’re trying to impress and look cute, don’t.

3. The Zen Den

The Zen Den is much needed. With the stress of work at Wash U, The Zen Den is here to save you. You can book complimentary 20-minute sessions in the massage chairs (not featured) and not complimentary (boo) massages you can book online.

4. Lottttts of Cardio!

Don’t forget the cardio!! Less exciting, but there are tons of new machines that you can use when you realistically get rejected from a cycling class. Also great if you don’t have your life together enough to look at the class schedule. For more information: http://rec.wustl.edu/landing/index
