Why Winter Break is Both a Blessing and a Curse

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wash U chapter.

So, the spring semester has finally started, and we’re all either really happy to be back, or really fed up with the onslaught of work that has been forced upon us. Personally, as glad as I am to be back with my friends and to be back doing things I really like to do, I’m honestly finding it harder to adjust being back now than I did when starting the school year. And what’s even funnier, is that everyone else seems to be in the same position too.

When I think about it, I think it must be because old habits have a tendency to die hard. You go home, and immediately you’re wrapped into the same routines you had when you were at home all the time, and even though you’ve been busy for months, you somehow lose all ability to leave the couch the minute your grades are in. So, when you come back, you’re still in that permanent state of laziness, and everything seems difficult, including (and especially) school work.

But I think when it comes down to it, the adjustment also works the other way. All of us are here because we were somehow able to push ourselves through last semester, and even though it can look pretty bleak sometimes, we’ll do it again.

Good luck to everyone during the spring semester!
