When at Wash U: Sorority Big/Little Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wash U chapter.

FULL DISCLOSURE: Big/Little week had to be one of the most glorious things that has ever happened in my life. If you’re a big, I’m sure it has to be the most stressful week of the year. Somehow, I suppose, those two balance each other out.

The way it started for me, for those of you who are not involved in Greek life that I was matched up with a “big.” This mysterious sophomore spent a week showering me with gifts and love and poems and happiness. Every morning, I woke up outside my door to see the most fantastic displays known to man.

SO MUCH LOVE

I also saw about 40 other displays daily taking over my newsfeed. Big/Little Week was definitely an experience that connected me to my big, as it was supposed to, but it also connected me to the other sisters in my pledge class. We were all SO excited to wake up every morning, or go back to our rooms at night to see what surprises we had in store. My highlights included:

·      A stay in/go out-themed day

·      More sorority apparel than I could ask for

·      The craftiest of crafts to put all over my dorm

·      So many desserts and candy I don’t know how to deal*

*I commented to someone that they call it “Big/Little week because by the end of it we’re quite big from all the food we have been given. I say this in jest, but I think my candy drawer sums it up quite nicely.

Basically I don’t have to leave my dorm to eat ever again.

By the end of the week, I was amazed at how much love I had gotten. I was amazed at the creativeness of my Big (if you need ideas, check out my new favorite website Pinterest and Her Campus, duh), and I was beyond excited to meet her. So, Friday came, and my Big was none other than the one and only BECCA:

Here’s us!!!

Big/Little Week was nothing less than heaven to me. And I know I’ll regret saying this in about a year, but I cannot wait until I have a little of my own that I can shower with gifts and love and adoration.
