Tips to Beat the Flu

I’ve gotten the flu shot every year and it has never failed me. That is until the first week of the semester had me lying in bed surrounded by tissues begging my friends to bring me soup. Here are some tips I learned from my bout with the flu.

  1. Don’t be afraid to take a day off from class. I know sometimes it is necessary to drag yourself out of bed for a test or quiz, but sometimes a day in bed is the best thing you can do for yourself. Email your professors and let them know what is going on; being sick is a perfectly valid reason not to go to class. Plus, you can help avoid spreading the flu by staying home.

  2. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. You will get better so much faster and feel stronger if you remember to drink liquids. My personal favorite drink when I’m sick is blue Powerade.

  3. Rely on your friends. No one wants to leave their room when they’re sick, especially to

go to BD. Don’t hesitate to let your friends know that you need a little pick me up. They

will be more than happy to grab your favorite soup from Paws and Go.

  4. Treat yourself! A little bit of ice cream makes everything better. I love Giofre’s honey ice

    cream in Paws and Go.

  5. Make sure you get some medicine. While relaxation and yummy food can certainly help

you feel better, Habif is a valuable resource when you are sick. If you have the flu, Habif can give you a medicine called Tamiflu which dramatically reduces the time it takes to get over the symptoms.
