St. Louis’ Best: Great Grub Close to Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wash U chapter.

Bocci Bar (N Central Ave.): With the same owner as Barcelona Tapas, Bocci Bar is a fun, hip bar-type restaurant that offers northern Italian food with a modern twist. This includes delicious, shareable plates such as caprese bruschetta with pizza bread, frito misto, and truffle shoestring fries.  The main courses are also delicious, and considering the food is top notch, the prices are very reasonable, especially when the plates are shared by multiple people. It’s also great for birthdays and special occasions! They have a beautiful room in back that’s perfect for larger parties.

Momo’s Greek Tavern (N and S Road): This rustic tavern offers authentic Greek food at extremely fair prices.  The rustic setting adds to the authenticity of the cuisine and it makes eating foreign food that much more special.  All the delicious spreads, such as traditional hummus or the fava bean spread, are served with fresh, warm pita bread.  Does it get much better than that? If you want Mediterranean food done right, Momo’s is the place to go.

Protzel’s Deli (Wydown Blvd.): Craving some Jewish deli food? No problem. Protzel’s is just minutes from campus and it has just about the best corned beef and lox that you can imagine. They also have amazing matzo ball soup that will rival the soup at your Passover table.  Did I mention it’s inexpensive?  You’ll walk out of Protzel’s with not only a full stomach, but also a full wallet.

Flacos Cocina (Delmar Blvd.): If you want some great Mexican food, Flacos is where you need to be.  Not only do they have some of the best guacamole ever, but they also have fresh ceviche, which is one of my favorite things that I can never find anywhere unless I’m on vacation in a Spanish-speaking country.  Tacos, burritos, quesadillas, you name it.  Flaco’s has it.  It’s such a great place to go with friends and is also less than ten minutes from campus.

Booster’s Café (Melville Ave.): Located right on The Loop, Booster’s has amazing, affordable breakfast.  They do serve all three meals, but their breakfast has to be the best.  The space is tiny and adorable, and you’ll fall in love with this neighborhood spot the minute you walk in.  Not to mention, the people that work there are incredibly friendly and will make you feel right at home.  Perfect for Saturday or Sunday brunch with a friend or two.
