Sankalp Bhan 2012

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wash U chapter.

If you are ever walking around campus and hear the Red Hot Chili Peppers mysteriously emanating from an unknown source, you may also notice senior Sankalp Bhan close by. “I walk around with music playing and forget that I’m listening to it, and I don’t use headphones because other people should be able to listen too,” explains Sankalp. This week’s Campus Cutie has a serious addiction to lamb and will have an even more serious diploma to show off come May. Brush up on your dancing skills and practice around Holmes Lounge if you want to catch this cutie’s eye.

Hometown? Katy, Texas.
Grade? Senior.
What do you study?  I actually have a Masters and a Bachelors degree. It’s a Masters of Control Engineering and BS in Biomedical Engineering. I want to get a PhD eventually but first I want to work for a while.
Activities on campus? I’ve done Diwali and hip-hop and Carnaval since sophomore year. I was also involved in the orchestra, wrestling, CORE and water polo. I’m just going to do Carnaval this semester.
Favorite class you have taken at this school? Literature of the Indian Subcontinent. It’s about postcolonial Indian literature.
Plans for next year? I just want to work in engineering, I’m not sure where – probably in defense or oil companies because they get to use the big robots, which I like.
What is your go-to meal for lunch? I get the WashU Wok sometimes but the DUC is not really my style. When Holmes Lounge serves lamb I get it every time – my friends will actually text me if it is on the menu. You got to get there at the right time, either 13 minutes before the hour or 25 minutes after the hour. I just like to study there and then I never have to wait in line.
Meat-lovers pizza or veggie? Probably vegetable because I don’t eat beef. Now, if they had lamb on a pizza… The way I determine junk food criteria – like if it is worth eating – is if the pleasure-to-calorie ratio asymptotically approaches lamb.
Last dream you can remember? This morning I dreamt that I was climbing through a city of ladders and the entire city was playing Frisbee. You had to catch the Frisbees while you were hanging on a ladder. It was really intense. I had to save some people’s lives.
Celebrity crush? Rihanna.
Who is your doppelganger?  I most often hear the guy who is in Slumdog Millionaire and in high school I heard Kevin G but I really think those are because the world is racist. But I wouldn’t mind making out with Freida Pinto.
Any advice to freshmen? You are probably a lot cooler than you think you are so don’t feel like you need to impress anyone. And if you want to learn about something you should just do it and not worry that it will be too much work or too challenging.
What is the last book you read? The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. It was so depressing.
Who did you vote for in the last Presidential election? Obama.
Where do you get your news? I have the NYT app and ReddIt for cultural news, which makes for great bathroom reading. And the Daily Show, too.
Tell me about your ideal day? Seeing all of my friends together and having a huge dance party.
