Mardi Gras is coming up, and St. Louis holds the (second) largest celebration in the United States.

That being said, the city holds a bunch of events to celebrate, either in the weeks leading up to Mardi Gras, or Mardi Gras weekend itself!  Here are a few that you should be sure to hit, dressed up in Mardi Gras apparel (purple, gold, and green):

1) Mardi Gras Soulard

Every year, 2 million people pour into this historic french district to celebrate! It is a free event for all ages. Here, you will find the Bud Light Grand Parade, the biggest Mardi Gras parade outside of Big Easy!

2) Missouri Lottery 5K run for your beads

While it takes place a week before mardi gras, this race allows people to dress up in mardi-gras related apparel and run!

5) Purina Pet Parade

The world’s largest costumed pet parade! The dogs with the best costumes, or the king and queen of barkus, will be crowned.

6) The Mayor’s Mardi Gras Ball

This event has been deemed the “social event of the season,” by the Riverfront Times; it has fine cuisine, dancing,  and entertainment– you can purchase a table!
