He hasn’t been here that long, but J-Prog Juan Alban’s already making a presence here on campus. Varsity Soccer player, fluent in three languages, and a Colombian complexion make this cutie one to track down, so take a break from midterms and review the newest Campus Cutie.

Hometown: Born in Bogota, Columbia; Lived in Puerto Rico, Madrid, Lisbon, Paris; now  lives in Chicago
Major: Pre-Med and maybe Economics

Relationship Status: Single

Campus Involvement:  J-Prog, Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) pledge, left defender on the Varsity Soccer team, and a soon-to-be-tour guide

Hobbies and interests: Plays soccer and is fluent in Spanish, French, and English

Favorite International food: Shawarma. It’s Arabic. I’m not really sure how to describe it but imagine a hot dog bun with pork, some strange delicious sauce, lettuce and tomato.

Favorite Show(s): Scrubs and the Jersey Shore

Favorite Character on the Jersey Shore: Vinny. He’s really chill and the only one that’s there to party without any drama.

What’s your favorite thing about Wash U so far? How nice everyone is. It’s easy to make friends and I’ve been here for like six weeks. Also the Soccer team guys are really fun, even the guys that don’t play on the team anymore all hang out together. I think my best memory at Wash U so far is hanging out with those guys on my J-Prog weekends first semester.

I hear that you used to go to school in Paris. What do you think is one of the biggest differences between Parisian ladies and the American ones?
Haha Parisian ladies are a lot harder to talk to than American ones. If you don’t speak French fluently, they won’t even bother to listen to you, let alone talk to you.

What’s something you’ll just never understand about women…
Why they can’t be ready quickly.

So how long did it take you to learn?
I was fluent by sophomore year.

Have any plans for spring break?
I’m going back home to Chicago and then my best friend from high school (who just moved to Chicago too) and I are going to take a road trip to Tampa to visit our friends at FSU.

How long’s the drive?
Like 20 hours.

Who’s the better driver, you or your friend?
Haha, probably me. I never failed the drivers test, but he has.

What’s the best vacation you ever went on?
Summer of sophomore year I went to Italy with my French friends from school. We stayed at this place called “Club Med” and everything was included in the hotel. Not only was there a beach, but also there were tons of things to do at night. That’s actually how I became fluent in French– hanging out with my French friends for the vacation, I had to speak French because there was no other way to communicate.

How do you beat midterm stress?
I’d have to say coffee and soccer. Since I can’t miss practice, it forces me to take a break from studying, which is good.

Lastly, what’s your favorite YouTube Video?
I have to choose two: “Zombie Kid Likes Turtles”  and “Lemme Smang It Tribute.”  On the snow day, a couple of guys on the soccer team decided to make a video parodying the “Lemme Smang It” song and it’s hysterical. It’s gotten so many views.  If you haven’t seen it, you should check out the original video and then watch their version. Were actually trying to get them to come for WILD, which would be awesome.
