How to Get in the Christmas Spirit

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wash U chapter.

Thanksgiving is almost here, which means Christmas is right around the corner!! Be jolly!! Be merry!! Bake cookies!! Here are some suggestions to help you Deck the Halls…or at least your dorm room.

Rocking around the (mini) Christmas tree…

A Christmas tree is the most essential Christmas decoration. It will remind you of decorating the tree at home (without having to help your parents haul down the boxes filled with every ornament you’ve made since kindergarten). Drink some hot cocoa, watch the snow fall outside your window, and listen to endless Christmas music until there is no doubt you will have a Holly Jolly Christmas. I bought one of these for my friend who is obsessed with Christmas and she absolutely loves it, 10/10 would recommend.

It’s Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas…

…as you walk down the street, stopping at every house to look at all the twinkle lights shining against the houses, creating reflections in the snow. Twinkle lights just make me smile. They’re a bright light during what can be a dreary, cold, miserable time. Plus, half of the people on this campus have these in their rooms anyway, so it’s super easy to incorporate them into your Christmas decorations.

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care…

Let’s be real for a second: how cute would it be if you and your roommate had matching stockings that you hung from the feet of your beds? So cute! (And you could fill them up for each other before finals and have a cute little goody bag because you’re both going to be stressed and you should definitely look out for each other)

Tiny little tots with their eyes all aglow will find it hard to sleep tonight…

…unless they’re wearing super cozy Christmas pajamas!! Be honest, studying for finals would be so much better in a super fluffy red onesie with reindeer chillin’ on it (a la my own Christmas onesie). My favorite shirt to break out the day after Thanksgiving is my bright red shirt that says “good old fashioned Griswold family Christmas.”

Hark! The Herald Angels Sing…

…and Bing Crosby…and Michael Bublé…and Mariah! Everyone has their favorite Christmas music, so make a playlist of yours and blast it in your dorm room! I’ve already started listening to Christmas music and I’m 75% confident that I will not get sick of it by December 25th. (Michael Buble’s “Christmas” album is my all time fave)
