How to Dress for St Louis Weather

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wash U chapter.

It’s no secret that St. Louis weather is pretty unpredictable. You’re walking to your 9 AM  in the freezing rain and then right after it’s sunny enough that you get a sunburn just by walking to your next class only to be startled by a thunderstorm and monsoon 10 minutes into it. This makes it extremely difficult to dress for class without packing 3 additional changes of clothes. Luckily, I’ve thought of a few tips to help combat the disastrous, unpredictable, St. Louis weather.

Always pack an umbrella

This may seem kind of extra and unnecessary, but you will thank yourself later. Why put effort into stuffing an umbrella into your bag whenever it rains? Just always keep it in there and you’re all set. There are tons of cute mini umbrellas that will save your hair and barely take up space in your bag.

Embrace hat hair

Ok not actually, but consider cute baseball caps for rainy days. They will protect your hair from getting wet and frizzing up. Plus, once it stops raining like 5 minutes later, you can take it off and show off your flawless looking hair.

Layer with jackets

Accessorizing with a cute bomber or a leather jacket is the way to go. Not only does it pull an entire outfit together, but it allows you to easily adjust to the everchanging St. Louis climate. It’s 40 degrees and raining? Put your jacket on. It’s 70 degrees and sunny an hour later? Take it off. It drops to 50 and windy 20 minutes later? Put it back on. Amazing.

Buy some boots

Okay, I know that everyone probably already owns a pair of boots but they are the key to surviving the St. Louis climate. They work in all kinds of weather. On both beautiful sunny days and in spontaneous chaotic mud-filled downpours, a solid pair of boots won’t let you down.
