Emmy’s Fashion Wrap-Up: The Best and the Worst of the Night

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wash U chapter.

Television’s biggest awards show night has come and gone once again! It’s always fun to see if any of your favorite TV stars come away with any awards, but we all know that the best part about any awards show is ogling over the glamorously dressed stars as they glide down the red carpet. Here are some highlights (and lowlights) of the fashion of the night!

Best Dressed:
1. Julie Bowen

Kudos to the Modern Family star for making a bold statement with her bright electric yellow strapless dress by Monique Lhuillier. Bowen balanced the bold color of her dress with understated, elegant accessories and a simple, half-up half-down hairstyle.

2. Tina Fey
The 30 Rock actress went for pure glamour in her deep red strapless Vivienne Westwood gown with an embellished neckline. The gorgeous, rich color was complemented perfectly by the detail on the neckline, and her soft updo allowed all focus to be on her stunning dress.

3. January Jones
The Mad Men star went for edgy drama in her black semi-sheer full-skirted Zac Posen gown. Jones was styled perfectly, letting her dress speak for itself with her simple styling and slicked back hair.

Worst Dressed:
1. Lena Dunham

As much as I love her show Girls, Dunham simply did not have quite as much of a fan in me regarding her choice of gown. Her heavy lace Prada dress was too conservative and frumpy, as well as very unflattering to her figure.

2. Claire Danes
While I loved the bright mustard yellow color of her Lanvin gown, the Homeland star did her body no favors with its billowing sack-like shape. Sure, she’s pregnant, but that’s no excuse to look sloppy. If you’re in the world of Hollywood, you need to up the effort.

3. Hayden Panettiere

Panettiere’s draped Marchesa dress had way too much going on at once. The gold underlay of the dress felt too hidden beneath the top layer of blue tulle; it almost seemed as if her dress was a combination of two very different dresses that were not meant to go together.

Until next year, Emmy’s!
