Cute and COVID-friendly Halloween Costumes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wash U chapter.

Now that it is October and fall weather, pumpkin-flavored drinks and Halloween festivities are taking over, it can be hard to focus on school. Whenever procrastinating my work, I find it fun to think of COVID-friendly, cute Halloween costume ideas and wanted to share some of my favorites.

One of the most common costumes you may see this year is the space cowgirl look. For shoes, you could wear white go-go boots that hit around the mid-calf. A sparkly skirt of some sort would make for fun bottoms and a brightly colored shirt would work for the top. Any color cowboy hat and a neon mask would complete this look.

Another simple idea is a cheetah. If you already own any form of cheetah print, this costume should be easy. There is no need to buy new shoes for this – any form of boots or cute sneakers would work. Either a cheetah print shirt and black bottoms or a cheetah print dress works perfectly. There are many cheetah print masks that would match the aesthetic and a pair of cheetah ears would top it off.

A classic costume idea is an alien. The main theme of the outfit is holographic material. Holographic shorts or skirts are easy to find on Amazon, and you could pair a white top with that. Any white sneakers would work, and a holographic mask and alien ears would be the perfect final touch.

If you’re socially distant, group costumes can also be fun. If you have three people, the Powerpuff Girls are an iconic trio. One person would be Blossom and match her reddish-pink aesthetic, one would be Bubbles and match her blue aesthetic and the final would be Buttercup and match her green aesthetic. If each girl wears a pair of boots, either a dress or a shirt and skirt in her colors and a matching mask, the costumes would be complete.

If you have a duo, the sun and moon would be a fun costume concept. Essentially, whoever is the sun would wear primarily gold holographic material and whoever is the moon would wear primarily silver holographic material. Like I stated earlier, Amazon has a selection of holographic masks that would match perfectly. You could also add some sun and moon headbands and glitter to make the outfit extra blingy.

A final duo costume idea is the devil and angel. This outfit is fairly self-explanatory, but one person should wear all red and the other should wear all white, including their masks. The devil can buy little horns and the angel can buy a halo. Additionally, the devil could buy a small pitchfork and the angel could buy feather wings.

For more fun ideas, I would look at Pinterest as that is where I got most of my inspiration!
