5 Fall Foods to Remind You of Home

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wash U chapter.

Fall is here. That means ginger-colored leaves, lots of family time, and most importantly, lots of good food. Below are 5 fall foods to take you back home.

1. Pumpkin Bread

The sheer smell of pumpkin bread in the oven will remind you of those days you sat around the kitchen table debating just what to be for Halloween. One slice and a quick whiff of that cinnamon flavor and you’ll be transported to your favorite fall memory. Try it with this recipe.

2. Fall in a Cup

Let’s admit it, we all have a soft spot when it comes to our favorite Starbucks drink during the months of October and November. Whether it’s the Pumpkin Spice Latte or Pumpkin Hot Chocolate, you really cannot go wrong. Oh, and while you’re at it, add in a pumpkin scone just for kicks.

3. Butternut Squash and Chicken Chowder

For this recipe, you can pretty much customize it however you’d like – whatever feels like fall to you! Feeling the warm flavor of this chowder in your mouth after coming inside from the brisk weather is simply irreplaceable. Find the recipe here.

4. Apple Pie

Whether you make your own crust or not, use those freshly hand-picked apples and make that delicious pie you salivated on the whole ride back from the orchard. Use grandma’s family recipe or try this one

5. Candy Corn

It’s simple, it’s easy, it’s candy corn. For this, all you have to do is run to the store. You can mix it with peanuts and chocolate to make a little trail mix, or you can eat it plain. It’s up to you, but how can you not remember your very first trick-or-treat when you place that triangle in your mouth?
