- Taylor Swift
For better or worse, Taylor Swift is famous for her dating life. Her hook-ups and break-ups have not only hit the front page; theyâve topped the charts. She even appeared in 2010âs guilty pleasure rom-com Valentineâs Day opposite future-BF Taylor Lautner. To capture an adorable, Taylor-inspired look for a casual Valentineâs date, try some red-hot capri pants and a striped boat-neck t-shirt. Dress it up with some bright red lipstick, throw on a pair of classic wayfarers, and youâre ready to start seeing Red!
- Katy Perry
Like Lady Gaga, Katy is known as much for her crazy costumes as she is for her musicâif not more. Unlike Gaga, though, Katy is more likely to eat steak than wear it for her romantic V-day dinner. Sure, she can be over-the-top, and not everyone can pull off electric blue hair, but there is definitely something to be said for that kind of confidence. From her vintage necklines in âThinking of Youâ to candy-coated cuteness in âCalifornia Gurlsâ to showgirl glamour in âWaking Up in Vegas,â Katy Perry is never afraid to rock a new style to show off her amazing curves.
- Marina and the Diamonds
Although perhaps less immediately recognizable as the other fashion icons on this list, Marina has recently risen as a âHeartbreakerâ in her own right, assuming a fabulous new persona with each change of clothes. âLike her recent tour-partner Katy Perry, Marinaâs costumes have a voice of their own, fashionably reclaiming negative female archetypes including the âPrimadonna,â the âHomewrecker,â and the âBubblegum Bitch,â all while looking gorgeous and having fun. So, if youâre looking for a new twist on Valentineâs Day, check out Marinaâs website for some new inspiration!
- Lola Bunny
One of Looney Tunesâ only female characters, I always loved Lola for being sexier than Minnie Mouse without being as over-the-top as Jessica Rabbit. Anthropomorphized to the extreme, Lola always kept her look cute and casual while still making Bugsâs eyes pop out of his head. Sure, her low-key ponytail was off-set by what would have to be massive amounts of Maybelline Falsies, but her tomboyish personality and sharp wit helped me overlook the impossibility of Barbie bangs on a bunny. Lola is classic proof that high heels and lipstick arenât required for a great look.
- The Queen of Hearts
A clichĂ©? Or a symbol of righteously ironic feminist rage against a holiday that promotes romantic relationships as a measure of a womanâs worth? Either way, sheâs definitely a positive role model for accessorizing. If no other day of the year, Valentineâs is the time to be dramatic with earrings, belts, and, if youâre really feeling adventurous, some adorable Lolita-style glasses. This year for Valentineâs Day, whether youâre going out or just making a statement, donât be afraid to get creative!
