I’ve recommended this band and their music on countless occasions and I am happy to do so every time. While not a dominant member of the main pop music stream, The 1975, in my humble opinion, only serves up the best and most profound pieces of musical art. Incorporating sounds inspired by various music genres, this band is able to exist and thrive outside the walls of a single genre. Exploring more of a pop sound in their most recent album, ‘I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it’, listeners are exposed to a different side of the band’s ever evolving sound.

Combining the band’s breathtaking aesthetic and poetic lyrics, the resulting musical experience is impressive to say the least. A British band originating from Wilmslow (just south of Manchester), fans often joke about not being able to understand the lead singer’s accent, but I find it very endearing and essential to the band’s originality.  Whether you can get all of the lyrics on the first listen or not, it’s clear that this band is venturing far below the surface when it comes to the stories being told through their music. From deep and emotional songs to more light-hearted tracks, you can count on the The 1975 to be with you through thick and thin. But don’t take my word for it! Here is a short list of songs I recommend to get you started. Enjoy!

1. The City

This is the first song that I heard by the The 1975. I was instantly taken by Matty’s (lead singer) unique yet familiar voice and the band’s overall sound.

2. Girls

One of my very favorite upbeat songs that has an even more amazing acoustic performance.

3. Settle Down

Possibly my ultimate favorite song from this band! Full of sincerity and calming tones, I seriously can’t get enough of this song.

4. UGH!

With its catchy lyrics and funky melody, I can never help but dance around a bit when this song comes on.

5. The Sound

This song embraces the pop sound but manages to keep that The 1975-esque essence.
