Ever wanted to chill at a retro American Diner? Struggling to find a restaurant that will seat everybody in your group? Well, you should definitely head to GB’s Café! Just across the road from the West gate of Waseda campus and a 5 minute walk away from Toyama campus, GB’s Café is the perfect choice if you’re looking for somewhere near school to have a meal or just to chill.

GB’s Café boasts an atmosphere that is unmatched by other cafés in the vicinity with its wooden interior and display of all things American! Think vintage license plates, signs, neon lights and novelty items. It almost feels as if you’ve been transported to an American Diner in the mid-West!

It’s also a great choice for a meal with your friends as the seating booths can seat up to 6!

The interior is not the only thing American here at GB’s Café. The portion sizes are also very American with the huge portions that they give! Your probably won’t find this anywhere else in Japan! Definitely value for money!

Tomato Cheese SaladWe had the Tomato Cheese Salad which turned out to be an excellent choice.

The combination of the sweet tomatoes and cheese was just terrific! Coupled with the crunchiness of the leafy lettuce, this was definitely a refreshing way to start the meal! Did we already mention that the portions were huge? This mountain of veggie-goodness only costs ¥580! By the way, all prices on the menu are displayed in Dollars to fit the American diner theme, so it was written as $5.80!

Chicken Curry – TexasFried Chicken was supposedly what the café was famous for and it certainly did not disappoint.

The curry was fragrant and mildly spicy, and complemented the crispiness and flavour of the chicken really well! We recommend you dip the chicken into the curry to bring out all the flavours! Again, a HUGE portion was given (just look at how much was given!) but we’re not complaining because it was really good! Along with the rice, you probably wouldn’t need to be eating anything else for the next few hours. And it only costs ¥780!

Chop Top RiceFor those who prefer something that isn’t spicy, make sure you try this out!

That dip was so perfect with the chicken that we almost wanted to order more chicken just to use up the dip!  The only thing that stopped us were our bloated stomachs. The chicken also tasted really good on its own becase the batter used for frying it contained a great combination of spices! It certainly tickled our taste buds! This costs ¥780 too.

All in all, we had a great experience at GB’s Café and we’re definitely going back for more of that fried chicken!! If you’re craving for some fried chicken, good salad, or even Hawaiian food (they serve loco moco!), head down to GB’s Café!
