Events in Tokyo: May 2016

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Waseda chapter.

Most of you may be suffering 5月病 “gogatsubiyo”(translates to May fever) which is simply a term that Japanese people made for their lack of motivation after enjoying a whole week off for Golden Week. Despite the on/off rain and the drain of work and school reality, I’ve gathered up a few events to keep you going until the end of the month.

As April shared with us earlier this week, the annual Thai Festival is coming up. During May 14 ~ May 15 head to Yoyogi Park for a taste of authentic Thai food and culture. For more information and tips on how to thoroughly enjoy the festival, read April’s article which you can do here

Berlin- Mai taco is your taco. Thursday, May 19

My friend Mark hosts these parties on every 3rd Thursday of the month. He was inspired by Berlin’s party habits, and wanted to share his experiences by hosting weekday events in Tokyo. The best parts? No entrance fee. Good music. Free tacos.

Bae Tokyo. Friday, May 20

In an already male dominated society and where it only seems to escalade in Tokyo, it’s rare to find a space where women aren’t oppressed here. Bae Tokyo is an all-female collective of some of the best local artists. Their events create an environment where women can celebrate and support one anothers’ confidence and/or success without the worry of unnecessary sexist words and actions. This is an event you can’t miss.
