Second Semester Junior

Currently in: France

This week’s campus cutie is Rosie Roberts (also a member of Her Campus Waseda!). She is currently in France for her one-year exchange program through our university.

Why France?

I’ve been studying French since high school and decided to carry on with it when I entered Waseda because I wanted to be able to speak another language. I thought it would be an advantage for my career after graduating, as I want to do translation and interpreting work. Waseda has a very good study abroad program and I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to learn a language in its home country.

What is the biggest cultural shock you had going to France?

I didn’t realise how convenient it is to live in Tokyo. Almost everything is closed on Sundays here including some public transportation as well.

What kind of courses are you taking at your exchange university?

I have registered for some courses in translation, of course. However I chose to also take some classes in the musicology department.

Why musicology?

Up until I graduated high school music was a big part of my life, but I gave it up to study at Waseda. Unfortunately the SILS program doesn’t offer many classes in music but the university here did. I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to pick it up again while being able to learn French as well.

When will you be back from your study abroad?

June. Next year!

Can’t wait for you to come back! I hope you enjoy your time studying abroad in France.
