Ever felt the pressure to be perfect? It seems everywhere you look there are perfect people, perfect clothes, perfect hair, perfect boyfriends, perfect everything. There is a constant pressure to have the perfect life and always have everything together. With social media, it’s like a silent competition on who can post the cutest photo or have the cleverest caption. It can be exhausting and overwhelming. But, the problem is: we’re human and we can’t be perfect. It is a completely unattainable goal, and it only serves to bring us down. This week, give up your pursuit of perfection and feel the burden lift off of your shoulders. Here are 3 ways to get rid of your perfection obsession for good:

1. Progress over Perfection

Instead of focusing your energy on being perfect, start directing your energy towards improving yourself. Every day try to be a little bit better than you were yesterday. Start establishing positive habits and work towards them. Improvement is a much better goal than perfection.

2. Don’t Assume Social Media is Reality

People post the best versions of themselves on social media. They share their best and most exciting moments, and that’s great! I love looking at what people are up to. But that is his or her best, no one’s actual day-to-day life is represented by Instagram. Don’t think that someone’s life is perfect based on what they post online. Social media is just a snapshot.

3. Leave Comparison Behind

There’s a quote that goes “comparison is the thief of joy,” and I couldn’t agree more.  There is always going to be someone smarter, prettier or more in shape than you. Just stop comparing yourself to them! You are on your own journey. You can’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle or end. Comparison will zap you of confidence and leave you feeling sad. The more you focus on you and your accomplishments, the happier and more fulfilled you are going to be.

Being perfect is so overrated. Your happiness is much more important! Being human and flawed is what makes life interesting. Celebrate your imperfections! Life doesn’t have to be perfect to be amazing.
