Where to Shop in Winston-Salem: Local Gems

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wake Forest chapter.

For any freshmen and/or sophomores that haven’t been here in Winston too long, or have been suffering from the lack of a car, you may think that there is absolutely nowhere to get your shopping on. Well, think again! Winston Salem is home to a surprising amount of great boutiques with clothing that rivals almost anything you can find in the big city! Many of the stores below were represented in the Breast Cancer Fashion Show and have been staples among Wake collegiettes for their favorite fashion finds. The end of the semester is coming up, so don’t you think you deserve something new to treat yo’ self? Look no more, because at these local gems you can find anything from your next pair of jeans to a kick-ass last tailgate outfit!

Monkee’s – Monkee’s has almost anything you could want. Although it can be on the pricier side, its trendy, seasonal clothing is sure to become a staple in your closet. While it does maintain many of today’s most popular brands, there are definitely some options there that you may not know exist! Monkee’s also has a great selection of shoes, bags, and jewelry (did someone say Raleigh Hoops?!). So next time you’re in the need for a Village Tavern pick-me-up stop by Monkee’s to find your new favorite scarf or statement necklace. If anything, you can just stare longingly at the vintage Chanel cabinet by the front.

Rebecca & Co – Rebecca & Co is located on Reynolda Road, a little bit off your usual route to Carving Board. This boutique is housed in an old gas station and is exactly the kind of trendy place you may have been looking for since you started at Wake Forest. Rebecca & Co is especially great for finding your next pair of jeans, as they have all the major brands. So keep driving past the turn for Stratford next time and you won’t regret it!

Bevello – Bevello is located in Winston Salem’s Thruway Shopping Center, right near Van Davis Aveda and Trader Joe’s. They just moved into this slightly bigger location and have an especially great selection of looks you can wear to class or a tailgate. They have a lot of great sales and deals most of the time and are perfect for finding gifts for your friend…or yourself.

Gusto – Gusto Clothing is located next to Brynn’s and Brueger’s Bagels, off of Stratford Road. Gusto held the very first WFU Style Club event and is the perfect place to get your next must-have fall item. Their indie and urban-inspired clothing will really set you apart for your next outing and are a perfect contrast to all that Lilly you may have hiding at the back of your closet. And Brynn’s is right next door so I don’t understand why you wouldn’t go.

Wildflower – Wildflower Boutique, located next to Whole Foods, is great find for those funky collegiettes out there. This store may be passed over by many but actually has a lot of great funky finds for the hippy in you, with many floor length skirts and maxi dresses. So next time you’re dying for a Whole Foods run, don’t forget to stop in Wildflower to find something unique for your closet!

Pure Barre – Now, this option may confuse many of you thinking that this is just a place to get your muscle-toning on. However, Pure Barre in Reynolda Village has so many cute workout clothes, it will finally give you that gym motivation you need. Pure Barre sponsored the workout looks for the Breast Cancer Fashion Show and many audience members were shocked at how awesome they all were! They have a great selection of workout tops, yoga-like pants, and jackets to keep you motivated in your next sweat-session. So next time you try out a class, be sure to shop a little too!
