  1. Junk Journaling

Junk journaling is a process of memory-keeping, similar to scrapbooking, that involves collaging and writing about yourself! It is pretty limitless; I have filled journals with diary entries, short stories, quotes I like, and to-do lists.  All you need to get started is a cute journal, a pair of scissors, a glue stick, and Pinterest (for ideas).

  1. Coloring

Coloring is pretty simple. All you need to get started is a coloring book and some sort of coloring tool. I have been really loving the Coco Wyo coloring books – the art is so cute! – and colored pencils. I have also recently discovered the existence of mechanical colored pencils, which are such a game-changer in making this a portable project.

  1. Crochet

Crochet takes a little more time to learn, but it is super easy once you get the hang of it! I learned through a Woobles kit, but honestly, all you really need to get started is some yarn, an appropriately sized hook, and a YouTube tutorial. I really love making amigurumi (small stuffed animals) and am working on my first blanket. While the yarn may take over your dorm room, it is relatively portable, and the end result is always super impressive.

  1. Embroidery

Embroidery will also take some time to learn, but it is super fun, and honestly, pretty useful! Once you get the hang of it, you can use it to personalize your clothes, and it makes everything so much cuter! All you need to get started is honestly a kit, but if you’re a little nervous about all the different stitches, try a cross-stitch or needlepoint kit first! They use the same skills, but only one stitch, so it is easier and still super cute!
