Turn It Up With These Throwbacks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wake Forest chapter.

So collegiettes, how many times have you been to a frat party and heard the same songs incessantly played over and over again? Personally speaking, this has happened one too many times. I find that there is nothing worse than being forced to listen to a song that has been overplayed to the max, especially when preparing for a night out. Without good music, a night out may turn into a flop. I find that a good solution to this obvious annoyance is to play some killer throwbacks. In the hopes that some fraternity boy will stumble on to this article or you ladies request these jams, I have collected a list of killer throwback for your next night out.

  1. Get Ur Freak On” by Missy Elliot. Not only will this song make a killer pregame party jam, when you hear this song out at a party, there’s no doubt some freaky dancing will ensue.
  2. Bootylicious” by Destiny’s Child. Pay homage to old school Queen B by raging to Destiny’s Child’s hit. And let’s be real, we all know the words.
  3. Yeah” by Usher. This song is pure gold. I don’t know where Usher has gone, but I miss him and his wicked dance moves very much. This song definitely has the power to make me get up and dance.
  4. Drop it Like it’s Hot” by Snoop Dog ft. Pharrell Williams. Tired of twerking? Slow it down a little with this classic Snoop Dog Jam. Not to mention we get to hear Pharrell Williams silky smooth voice.
  5. Candy Shop” by 50 cent. I don’t care what year it is, this song will always make me feel sexy even if my dance moves look more like a seizure.
  6. Hypnotize” by Notorious B.I.G. Who isn’t hypnotized by this song? His most famous song is one of my favorites and is likely to get you dancing.
  7. Sexy Back” by Justin Timberlake ft. Timbaland. Not only does JT have a sexy bod (arguably the most sexy) but his songs are also inspired and energetic. So listen to his music, drool over his appearance and be jealous of Jessica Beil.
  8. Hips Don’t Lie” by Shakira ft. Wyclef Jean. She was the Latin Britney Spears for our generation. Who cares about Pitbull when Shakira puts out music, our hips are always swaying.
  9. I’m a Slave 4 U”  by Britney Spears. I’m not gonna say take notes from the video, but she knows what she’s doing…
  10. Me Against the Music” by Britney Spears ft. Madonna. These last two spots are reserved for one of the most influential pop artists ever. If these songs don’t send you running to the dance floor, it’s time to reevaluate your party jams.
