Try Rare Beauty: Selena Gomez’s New Revolutionary Makeup Line

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wake Forest chapter.

Whether you grew up obsessively watching Alex Russo make a fashion statement with her placement of a wand in her tall boots or listening to “Who Says” on repeat and feeling like the boss that you are, we all know and love Selena Gomez. Up until now, I felt like I was not getting the much-needed Selena presence in my life. Don’t worry though, she’s back! On September 3rd, Selena Gomez launched her very own makeup line—Rare Beauty—and you all MUST try it.

I rushed to the Sephora in the Hanes Mall immediately after hearing about Selena’s brand launch. As a makeup connoisseur, I purchased nearly every product in her line: foundation, concealer, brushes, a sponge, highlighter, blush, eyeliner, liquid lipstick, and setting spray. All I have to say is I am obsessed. The highlighter gives me the perfect natural shine, and the liquid eyeliner has made perfecting the ever-so-hard winged liner so much easier. Not only does this makeup look amazing on your face, but your conscience can also be clear when you wear it. All of the formulas are vegan and none of the products were tested on animals.

Rare Beauty is my new favorite brand not only because it looks incredible on, but also because of the message it communicates. The brand’s slogan is: “Rare Beauty is breaking down the unrealistic standards of perfection. This is makeup to feel good in, without hiding what makes you unique—because Rare Beauty is not about being someone else, but being who you are.” Selena wanted Rare Beauty to be a makeup line that allows women to embrace their individuality. Her goal was to encourage users to determine what makes them rare and learn to be happy with who they are. Selena Gomez didn’t stop there with her brand’s impact and mission. The Rare Impact Fund was created with the mission of raising $100M in the next ten years in hopes of giving people broader access to mental health services. One percent of the Rare Beauty sales will go to the Rare Impact Fund.

If you want to feel beautiful in your own skin and make an impact in the mental health awareness world when purchasing your makeup, be sure to buy Rare Beauty. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
