Welcome back to the Forest!  Whether you’re a returning student or a freshman, start the semester off right by getting to know our first Campus Cutie of the year!  He’s optimistic, hard-working, and an avid skier – meet Trevor Hunt!

HC (Her Campus):  So, senior year! How does it feel?

TH (Trevor Hunt):  It’s pretty awesome.  It’s pretty scary too.  I’m sure everyone has that same answer.  It kind of feels weird living off campus and not being as much a part of everything.  At this point it’s just like, Wake is awesome – it’s a different year and I’m just going to try and make the best of it.  And it’s going to fly by, I know that.

HC:  Are you excited for the first tailgate this weekend?

TH:  Yeah, I can’t wait actually.  The best part about the tailgate is that everyone kind of intermingles; whereas you don’t really get that on the weekends as much.  It’ll be awesome to see everybody whom I haven’t had a chance to catch up with yet. So yeah, I can’t wait, and hopefully we won’t lose.

HC:  So you actually go to the game?

TH:  I’ll go to probably a combined hour throughout the whole year.  (Laughing) Ten minutes a game or so.

HC:  What’s on your bucket list before graduating?

TH:  Well I’ve never been to a Wake baseball game, so that’d be pretty cool.  I’ve already been in the tunnels, so I don’t really care about that (laughing).  I’ve got a lot of friends who have gone skydiving around here – I don’t really know if that’s a Wake Forest bucket list thing, but I’ve always wanted to do that.  Maybe spend a whole week without going to the library?

HC:  Yeah, the library isn’t my favorite place…

TH:  Yeah, that’s the tough part about being pre-med – you’re pretty much locked up there.

HC: Any advice for the freshmen ready to spend their next four years at Wake?

TH:  Really just buckle down and try to get good habits from the get-go.  But still take advantage of the fact that you’re going to be working a lot harder in your last two years, so make a lot of good friends during freshmen and sophomore year.

HC:  Any idea yet of what you might want to do in the real world?

TH:  I kind of delayed my pre-med track a year, so I’ll have a year in between Wake and med school.  I hope to either get a research job – I did some research this past summer in a neurobiology lab, so that was pretty cool.  I might want to do something again with that.  If not, I never got to go abroad while I was at Wake; I might try and go abroad and do a World Health or Red Cross kind of thing for a few months.

HC:  Cool!  Do you know where you want to go?

TH:  The Far East.  It doesn’t fit me at all but I think it’d be really cool.  The more I get out of my comfort zone, I think the more fun it would be.

HC:  Definitely.  So what made you want to become a doctor?

TH:  I’ve always kind of set a high bar for myself.  My dad’s in business – you know, in sales.  My grandpa was in sales.  My mom’s in sales.  So I’m not really revolting, but I always knew I didn’t want to do what they did.  I couldn’t really sit behind a desk and do paperwork.  There’s a few doctors in the family, so I started shadowing them when I was pretty young.  The first operation I ever saw was a big toe amputation (laughs).  It never really weirded me out.  I thought it was all pretty cool stuff.  So that got me into it.  I mean, it’s just the desire to do something productive and not just push money around, but to make a difference in somebody’s life and over the course of a career.

HC:  Very admirable!  Tell me more about your summer.

TH:  My parents moved to Chapel Hill in April.  I applied to ten or so programs for the summer and it just so happened that the one I ended up in was in Raleigh.  So I actually got to live at our house all summer, which we weren’t expecting.  I thought I was going to be in an apartment cooking for myself and I actually ended up with home-cooked meals all summer, so that was really nice.  I did an internship on the weekdays and worked at a country club on the weekends, so I was pretty busy.  I pretty much just dissected mouse brains and then looked at them under a microscope.  It was really fun.  I met a lot of cool people – a lot of really smart people that pushed me to try really hard and keep going.

HC:  Sounds like a great experience!  What are your favorite hobbies/sports?

TH:  I’m a huge skier. My dad actually skied somewhat professionally for eight or so years – he dropped out of college and did that.  So he’s kind of obsessed with skiing.  He had me skiing even before I was a year old.  So I’ve been skiing my whole life.  Every spring break we always go out west – me and my mom and my dad – and we’ll ski somewhere like Colorado or Utah.  My biggest goal with my dad is to go helicopter skiing with him someday. So skiing is my major hobby. I ski raced in high school and did terrain park – like doing tricks.  I’m also a big golfer.  I’ve golfed my whole life but I’ve never actually played for a team or anything.  I didn’t really start taking it seriously until a couple years ago, but I love it.  I just like being outside.  It’s nice because a lot of people at Wake golf too, so there’s always someone to play with.

HC:  Do you have a celebrity crush?

TH:  Jessica Alba.  I’ve always been in love with her. I’d marry her in a heartbeat.

HC:  Favorite music?

TH:  Pretty much everything.  I used to hate country, and I think being at Wake kind of forced me to like it.  So I’m a big country fan now.  I had a punk-rock stage in high school, and I used to get into a lot of rap.  Music I’ve always liked across the board has been Dave Matthews, O.A.R., Phish – the jam bands.  Just feel-good music.

HC:  Favorite movie?

TH:  Probably The Lord of the Rings.  I’m kind of a really big closeted nerd.  My best friend used to live across the street and he’d always be like, “We’re gonna watch all three The Lord of the Rings in one night.”  He’d come over and we’d always fall asleep an hour into the second one.  We probably tried it like eight times and we never made it through once.

HC:  Favorite food?

TH:  I’m a big pasta fan.  My mom’s penne with vodka sauce is probably my favorite thing in the world.  She makes it better than any restaurant I’ve ever been to.

HC:  Sounds yummy.  Do you have any guilty pleasures?

TH:  Sleeping in.  A case in point – my first class today is at 2:00 pm.

HC:  What are the three most important things to you?

TH:  My family is definitely number one.  I have two sisters – they’re half-sisters but I’ve always been really close with them.  They’re nine years older than me. They’re both like my pals and like my moms.  They help me out but we also have a great time.  Same with my parents.  I love my family.  Second would be just doing something productive with my time.  I’m not the kind to just sit around.  I want to be able to say I’m making some sort of a difference, whether it be joining a group and helping out with a charity, or hopefully becoming a doctor one day.  And the third is probably just being optimistic and having fun.  What’s the point in doing something if you’re not enjoying it?

HC:  I agree!  And how would you describe yourself?

TH:  I’d say there’s not one set definition for myself.  I know where I’m going, but I kind of zigzag on the way there.  I’m spontaneous, I guess.  I like to have a plan – I’m very organized.  But I also like to go with the flow.

HC:  So if you were an animal, what would you be?

TH:  Any kind of bird.  It’d be awesome to fly.

HC:  What about an ice cream flavor?

TH:  Cookies and Cream.

HC:  And who would play you in the movie of your life?

TH:  Frankie Muniz.  Malcolm in the Middle was my first ever favorite show.  The kid’s really smart but he’s also super quirky and loves to have a great time.

Rockin’ the bow tie even before Wake Forest! Awe!
