Top places to visit over Fall Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wake Forest chapter.

Have to stay on campus for fall break but wish you could go home? Don’t know what to do for the weekend when your friends leave?

Cheer up! Here are 5 things you can do in Winston-Salem to keep you entertained for the whole weekend.

1. Historic Bethabara Park

Winston-Salem is home to an abundant number of beautiful parks like Bethabara. If you’re searching for a relaxing, beautiful place to explore that is close to campus, check out this spot. It is located at 2147 Bethabara Rd.

2. Old Salem Museum and Gardens

The Old Salem Museum and Gardens is one of Winston Salem’s best attractions and you will not be disappointed with the beauty. If you’re curious about the heritage of Winston-Salem be sure to stop by, and if you’re in need of a sugary treat, don’t miss Winkler Bakery inside the museum. Also consider visiting Reynolda House Museum of American Art located just a mile from campus to peruse some astounding artwork.

3. Fairgrounds Farmers’ Market

While its hours are 6:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, it’s only a 5-minute car ride from campus or an 11-minute walk. This market offers a variety of fresh foods at reasonable prices and is a nice change if you’re feeling tired of the Pit.

4.  Hawks Pumpkin Patch

With Halloween approaching in just a few weeks, now is a great time to get in the spirit and visit Hawks Pumpkin Patch at 2558 W Clemmonsville Rd. Though it’s about an 18-minute drive from Wake, the trip is well worth it. Aside from a wide selection of pumpkins to choose from, they offer hay rides, caramel apples and games. You will not be disappointed.

5.  Thruway Shopping Center

Located about 15-minutes from campus at 300 S Stratford Rd, this shopping center is a great change from Hanes Mall or Reynolda Village. It has numerous shops and eateries including Trader Joe’s, Ichiban Japanese cuisine and Juice Shop Smoothies.
