Now that the new semester has started, you likely need a good TV show to unwind with after an exhausting week of classes. Personally, I love a good murder series, but unfortunately, I’ve seen every episode of Law and Order and Criminal Minds multiple times. So, for people like me, here are three unconventional crime miniseries that you should binge-watch this semester.
1. The Undoing – HBO
I cannot speak highly enough about this show. Starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant, The Undoing will have you on the edge of your seat. In just six episodes, watch the mysterious murder of a private school mom in New York City play out among the community. When Nicole Kidman discovers that her husband may be involved in the murder, the race to uncover the truth divulges family secrets and lies.
2. Defending Jacob – Apple TV
Based on a novel, Defending Jacob is an eight-episode psychological thriller that will constantly keep you guessing. When a classmate is murdered and Jacob is accused, his parents are forced to grapple with the idea of whether or not their own child could be a killer. A seemingly perfect suburban family is torn apart as revelations occur in the case.
3. Sharp Objects – HBO
Starring Amy Adams, this series tells the story of a journalist who returns to her hometown to investigate the mysterious murders of young girls. Staying with her family during the course of the investigation, the journalist delves into her childhood, the secrets of her family, and the goings-on of the town. Shocking, terrifying, and thrilling – you will never guess the identity of the killer.
