Even when I was a little kid, my mom knew I was going to be a sucker for style. I think she was actually hoping my obsession would be limited to clothes, but it’s progressed to include accessories and shoes galore.
Â
It’s not uncommon for me to change into five different outfits per day … all of which include bright colors and patterns. Mixing is the new matching. At 20 years old, I am no longer a clashing eye sore (I hope), but I can definitely say that my closet is far from being filled with neutrals.

While I must support staple solids, I am beyond excited for fall’s color-blocking and geometric print trends. Blog after blog is featuring clothing, handbags, jewelry and shoes in bolder colors than ever before. Could a bold print become the new black? Heck, I’ve never really subscribed to the LBD trend anyway. To fully take advantage of fashion’s print explosion, be sure to do the following:
Â
1. Try to limit your outfit to one article of clothing in a bold pattern or color. For instance, when pairing the purple pumps, I stick to a black or other solid colored dress. The shoes’ boldness is enough of a statement on their own.
2. Since temperatures will soon be dropping, make sure that the bold colors and patterns that you choose are in a seasonally appropriate color palette (a.k.a. not too summer-y). Shift from pastels and neons to jewel tones like emerald, teal, ruby and saffron.
3. When choosing jewelry to go with your outfit, it is better to stay on the simpler side to avoid overpowering your clothing. Or better yet, choose one accessory to go all-out with.
4. With fall pretty much already here, tights are going to become necessary, so make sure that if you are wearing a dress or skirt with a busy pattern, keep your tights on the conservative side so they aren’t in competition with your outfit.

Good luck! And when in doubt, grab that bright orange, purple or yellow statement piece, and you’re sure to get noticed!
