Sophomore Strugs: The Best Brunch Spots Around Winston-Salem

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wake Forest chapter.

It’s the most important meal of the week: Brunch! Here are my favorite places to hit up on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Krankies

Specialties: Their varieties of fresh-brewed coffee, imported from around the world, provide a more unique selection of coffee tastes than any of the regular coffees served at Starbucks. Also, their brunch menu features some classic southern foods such as biscuits, gravy, and fried chicken.

Atmosphere: Rustic and chic

Must eat: The Weekend BLT

Midtown Café

Specialties: Their breakfast and brunch menu offers a large selection of classic American brunch items, such as pancakes, omelets, eggs any style, and fruit. Even better, you can order off of their breakfast menu any time while they’re open from 7am to 8:30pm.

Atmosphere: American bakery casual

Must eat: Swiss Chocolate-Chip or Blueberry Pancakes.

Bagel Station

Specialties: 18 different varieties of homemade, New York style bagels. Bagel flavors vary from the usual cinnamon raisin and sesame seed to the more adventures flavors of tomato basil and pumpkin. They also offer several kinds of cream cheese and spreads including vegetable, honey butter, and hummus.

Atmosphere: 90’s Deli

Must eat: Breakfast Cheese Melt with your choice of bagel.

Famous Toastery

Specialties: Wide selection of omelets, French toast, and breakfast sandwiches. Especially noteworthy are the egg specialties that incorporate different Northern and Southern styles of eggs, ranging from the “New Yorker” to the “Country Benedict.” Also, every meal is served with a sweet corn bread appetizer.

Atmosphere: Fun, elegant, and energetic

Must eat: Blueberry Stuffed French Toast with Hash Browns

Mozelle’s Southern Bistro

Specialties: Best known for their Southern brunch staples, including Fried Okra, Banana Bread French Toast, and Sausage, Biscuits, and Gravy. The portions are smaller but rich in flavor and decadence.

Atmosphere: Cute and upscale

Must eat: Tomato Bisque and Mozelle’s Benedict
