Reflections on the Women’s March 2018

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wake Forest chapter.

Last year, the Women’s March was inspirational as women and those who support women from around the world voiced their ideas and fought for their rights; however, women of color, women of lower socioeconomic status and the LGBTQ+ community could have been represented better in last year’s march. This year, many people, especially the Women’s March executive team, made an effort to include all types of people, which makes this year’s march even more important as people realize the problems that persist in our society. But, on a lighter note, I wanted to give you all some of my favorite signs from the women’s marches around the world.

I miss Carrie Fisher, which is partly why I love this poster so much, but also because Leia Skywalker fought for justice and she is such an iconic figure for women. There are many other Star Wars themed signs that I loved as well.

YES, WOMEN IN OFFICE. This is so important, everyone should be represented in government so let’s get more of ALL kinds of people running for office.

This I how I feel a lot and this sign embodies it.

Dogs rock and the sign is spot on.

I love a good pun, and this one is furthering women’s rights.

A time traveler with a message I think we should definitely listen to.

But for real everyone – run for office, vote for inclusive legislature, and stand up for one another. Equality is so important and we have not reached it yet, but with every little action, we can all get a little bit closer.
