The abroad girls are back in town. Have you heard? Those of us who have been stuck in the Dash for the past semester are so jealous of the abroad girls who have beengallivanting throughout Europe for the past four months! Not to mention they seem to have brought back the best part with them: the style.

It must be hard coming back to the Wake bubble once you’ve lived in some of the fashion capitals of the world. Suddenly Patagonia’s and cowgirl boots just don’t cut it. It’s all about dark colors, leather motorcycle jackets, off-the-shoulder shirts, and scarves – at least for the most-recent abroad returnees.

Upton’s pre-Europe preppy style

Before junior Susan Upton left for London, she sported very girlish clothing – anything bright and preppy. It took her no time at all to realize that she was a bit of a stand out in London. Before long, she felt her style evolving before her very eyes. Leggings became a second skin and pinks and yellows were replaced by more neutral grays, browns and blacks. Another factor in her head-to-toe fashion makeover was her 6-week internship at ESPN.  She found herself dressing trendier in all of her newly purchased Top Shop clothes.

Upton’s post-abroad edgy style

Easy to spot, Susan sports her euro style as if she never left London. Her angled hair and fashionable clothes set her far from the girl who left America only a few months ago.

It’s no secret that America is different from Europe, and an even less kept secret that Wake is very different from Europe. As the girls to adjust to being back, we cannot help but envy their fashion –forward style. Abroad girls, we are thrilled to have you back and will gladly jam to the European techno at a frat party if you lend out your trendy clothes beforehand!
